Do you list auctions at a certain time faithfully every week? Are you all over the time zone map? Does it even matter? What is your listing time philosophy? Blog it for Flaming Hot!
Yes I do post faithfully within a certain time period, normally five days a week (52 weeks a year and through vacations)…but lately four days a week. Long ago I posted new auctions each and everyday, yup! seven days a week. I found over time that the auctions ending on weekends didn’t go for as much or often went unsold. Wanting actual days off, I made auction posting days Monday through Friday. A while back I came to realize we weren’t selling as well on Friday. Maybe our shoppers are taking off or preparing for their weekends? A good possibility. So Monday through Thursday I post new items most of the time before 12:30 pm PST. Sometimes as early as 9:00 am, it just depends…since I don’t time auctions unless I am going to be away from the office…they get posted when the photo’s are ready and things around the house let me get them done. I do find posting auctions around the same time period does help, I found morning hours to work better than evening hours. If you post auctions five days a week, you will have items ending five days a week, which appear at the top of a list. You will also have new auctions showing, five days a week…same thing, showing near the top of the newest listed items. Posting all your auctions on one day….is a bad biz move as far as I can see. You miss out on being on the tops of list, ending and new items. Also a person won’t click you each day…why? well they know that if they click on that “one day” that you list new that’s all they have to do and they are done for the week. If you are known to post new each day, they will find the time to click that bookmark and see what new you have, clicking that bookmark becomes a daily habit. I think I will start posting on Friday again….just to see how it goes. Sunday is the only weekend day I would put new item’s up, and it would be in the evening hours when people are home from doing whatever they had going on over the weekend.
I have also in the last year been getting used to having a website….and now Etsy….so posting might change somewhat. I am not sure if Etsy will get new postings five days a week. I think the list might get to large and overwhelming. I do update my website and say hi everyday and show our new items listed on eBay and Etsy. Sometimes I pop up a web special, but those are unexpected surprises. I have always been one to not make my list on eBay longer than one page. So I keep it to 24 items or less, you don’t want to overwhelm your shopper’s. I am feeling Etsy might be the same way…I am hoping things will move and sell at a good pace so I can replace with new, but I might have to stretch to two pages. I guess for the most part as a seller, I always try and think like a shopper when I do post, the photo’s I take, what I tell them in my auction’s etc.
